Ranges accept comma-separated numbers and hyphenated spans together, so 1-3, 5, 8-10 pulls pages one through three, page five, and pages eight through ten in that order. Page numbers refer to the position in the original document, not the printed page numbers shown on the paper.
Because splitting runs in the browser's memory, very large PDFs with hundreds of high-resolution scanned pages may take longer to process or use more memory than a typical text document. Closing other heavy browser tabs helps when working with big scanned files.
